Dear Stakeholders,

For 135 years, Buckeye has served as a leading global provider of integrated transportation, storage, processing, and marketing solutions for the midstream energy sector.

Our culture and business strategies are built upon a firm commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, operational excellence, and best-in-class customer service.

At Buckeye, we proactively incorporate sustainability into our long-term strategy. To us, sustainability encompasses a broad range of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues that include ensuring safe operations, being good neighbors and corporate citizens, and protecting the environment as well as the communities
where we’re privileged to operate.

These commitments start at the highest level of the company and extend to every pump station and terminal across our operations.

Focus on Safety

Our culture is defined by our steadfast commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, regulatory compliance, and personal integrity. We care deeply not only about our people, but about the communities and environment in which we live and work. These shared values drive our rigorous approach to Operational Excellence, this is, achieving goals – without harm, and our work towards continuous improvement in all aspects of our operations.

We continue to reinforce our L.I.V.E. safe culture across our enterprise and at all levels of the organization. At the executive level, we provide quarterly updates to our Board of Directors.

Our L.I.V.E safe concept is also designed to promote safety leadership through active employee involvement, shared beliefs and values, and an unwavering commitment to operational excellence. As part of this commitment, we hold an annual Operational Excellence summit focused solely on the safety of people and the protection of the environment. The summit reinforces safety key principals and offers training programs as well as new initiatives that help recognize, minimize, and control risk.

In addition, Buckeye conducts routine emergency response training exercises, with local first responders and regulatory agencies, to ensure all stakeholders are effectively prepared to maintain community safety and minimize environmental impact. Moving forward, Buckeye’s Safety and Operations Management System (SOMS) represents the next evolution in continuous improvement, reliability and operational excellence. Using Buckeye’s Business Operating Model, L.I.V.E. Safe values and commitment to Operational Excellence, SOMS will allow us to grow more efficiently, be more effective and spread our expertise and knowledge across our organization.

We have a company-wide employee observation program that is designed to identify at-risk behaviors so we can prevent injuries from occurring. In just 4 months, our employees conducted over 2,100 safety observations. Buckeye’s recordable incident rate for 2019 was 0.41. While this is respectable performance, we always strive for continuous improvement and Goal Zero.

Ongoing Commitment to Environmental and Social Responsibility

At the heart of our approach to environmental stewardship is a commitment to preserve and protect the integrity and viability of our assets, which we achieve through investing in industry-leading preventive maintenance methods and equipment, and the responsible use and protection of the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices.

Our vapor recovery program for gasoline truck loading across the Buckeye enterprise, for example, saved roughly 65,000 tons of CO2 emissions in 2019.

Buckeye strives to be a visible and trusted partner that contributes to the well-being and vitality of the communities in which we live and work. This is most evident through our employee charitable contribution matching program, participation in annual charity events, and significant involvement in hurricane relief efforts.

In 2019 alone, Buckeye’s charitable contributions exceeded $1 million. In early 2020, Buckeye announced contributions of more than $1 million to local nonprofits across the communities in which it operates to help provide long-term support and assist communities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Looking Forward

Further incorporating ESG principles into our business strategy will enhance our operational success and create even more benefits for the communities where we work and live. We also believe that our ESG website heightens transparency for our stakeholders and allows the public to gain a better understanding of how we work to achieve these important and shared goals.

We recognize that 2020 has presented unique challenges to our business, our employees and our communities. I remain proud of how resilient our organization and people have been, successfully navigating through the challenges and opportunities the rapidly shifting landscape has thrown our way and I remain confident we will continue to do so. We continue to see the benefits of the diversified business model that we have developed over the years.

With IFM’s unwavering support, we continue to explore additional diversification opportunities with respect to new business lines and new geographies. Solar and other renewable energy are key focuses of our business development teams. And through all of this, our employees and contractors remain diligent in maintaining safe and efficient operations. Most importantly, I continue to believe Buckeye has a very bright future and I am excited to be a part of this great company. Our best days are ahead.
